Has she NO shame? Outrage as trans cyclist sweeps to victory in national USA Cycling contest – after placing 44th in male race just last season

A trans cyclist has sparked fury after sweeping to victory in a national USA Cycling contest – after placing 44th in a male race just last season. 

Kylie Small had been competing in men’s races until earlier this year – and last week, she won the Women’s Singlespeed national title at the USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. 

The Fort Lewis College student took the gold with a time of 38 minutes and 19 seconds. 

In April, Small came 44th in the CX Male Senior 18-22 division, according to Reduxx. Before switching divisions, she was competing under her birth name.

The second-fastest in last week’s Kentucky race was Jennifer Malik.

The International Council on Women’s Sports have since condemned USA Cycling for allowing trans women to self-identify into the women’s category.

After the win, Small said that she won the race because she was ‘pushing gaps’ and performing ‘clean dismounts.’ 

She wrote on social media, while posing with her gold medal: ‘Cyclocross nationals!! Didn’t go into this trip expecting a lot, so it’s all the more sweet to come away from the trip with a national title. 

‘Super fun to race such an iconic course as well. My first day of racing didn’t go great in collegiate varsity with flccycling with a burp of the rear tire leading to me losing a group of some really fast gals and then trying to catch back on for the rest of the race.

‘I definitely found my legs back in the single speed though! With some of my fastest lap times of the weekend I quickly tried to weave my way to the front and launched an attack with two laps to go. 

‘Special thanks to maxx chance for coaching me on some sections mid race. I was running a 42×19 for all those wondering :)’

But just last season in April, she was competing in men’s leagues and came 44th, according to Reduxx

This comes after USA Cycling said that in 2024, they would be testing the testosterone levels of trans women who want to compete in women’s leagues. 

In a statement, the body said: ‘Beginning January 1, 2024, transgender athletes seeking to compete at USA Cycling-sanctioned events will be categorized as either a Group A or Group B athlete, depending on their discipline and race category.

‘Group A transgender women seeking to compete domestically must complete the elite athlete fairness evaluation application for review by an independent medical panel.

‘This process includes the submission of medical documentation demonstrating that their total testosterone level in serum has been below 2.5 nmol/L for at least 24 months and must be completed 90 days prior to the first day of the race in which the athlete seeks to compete.

‘Group B transgender athletes (men and women) seeking to compete domestically must complete a self-identity verification request for review by the USA Cycling Technical Director.

‘This process is for documenting the athlete’s change in gender identity and must be completed 30 days prior to the first day of the race in which the athlete seeks to compete.’

People on social media called out the cycling body for allowing Kylie Small to perform in that category over the weekend. 

One person wrote: ‘Cheating cheater cheated. Cowardly cowards allowed it.’ 

Another added: ‘I just can’t understand how males can participate in woman’s sport and feel shame and embarrassment? It is unconscionable!’ 

And a third said: ‘I can’t understand how the ruling bodies are able to justify allowing this man to race against women, whilst simultaneously banning performance enhancing drugs. Both achieve the same results.’ 

This comes after a pair of transgender women won first and second place in a female race at the Illinois State Cyclocross Championships over the weekend, sparking fury among advocates for women’s athletics.

The championships were held on December 3 and comprised of a dozen different competitions divided into men, women, and junior athlete categories.

But two biological men placed atop the podium for the Women’s Singlespeed category.

Kristin Chalmers, the bronze medalist, was the sole biological female on a podium that included Tessa Johnson and Evelyn Williamson.

According to Reduxx, Chicago CrossCup’s website notes that it will disqualify anyone who practices ‘discrimination or harassment of any kind on the basis of race, color, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identification, national origin, or any other stupid idea someone comes up with to belittle another racer.’

News of the gold and silver wins by the transgender athletes lit up X as women’s sports advocates reacted in disgust and dismay to podium spots that had been stolen from biologically female competitors.

Megyn Kelly simply called the incident ‘infuriating,’ while tennis legend Martina Navratilova wrote: ‘More mediocre male bodies taking podium places from female athletes. And it stinks!!!!’

Piers Morgan was also horrified: ‘It’s so outrageous. Why aren’t more women standing up against this assault on their rights?’ he wrote on X.

An account called the Lesbian Republican wrote: ‘Cycling has been my refuge since I was a little girl. This makes me sick to my stomach and full of rage.’

Former NCAA swimmer and current advocate for the continued existence of women’s sports Riley Gaines offered to compensate female cyclists who boycott USA Cycling competitions.

‘Any woman who concedes and doesn’t compete, I will personally pay them the prize money they’re missing out on. Stop participating in the farce,’ she wrote.

Johnson and Williamson have been racing as women for years. Since 2017, Williamson has collected some 18 first place titles in races across the country.

Williamson is reportedly in a polyamorous relationship with fellow trans cyclist Austin Kilips, who competes against biological women and has become notorious for shoving a competitor during a race. 

According to past reporting, Williamson competed in both men’s and women’s categories at the Sky Express Winter Criterium in March 2020, where the cyclist won first place racing against women.

But she didn’t place in the men’s race comprised of 40 cyclists – suggesting that Navratilova may have hit the nail on the head with her statement.

Johnson has also picked up a number of victories in female races, after previously competing in men’s categories while riding for Clemson University.
