Lightning bolt strikes man dead at teenager’s birthday party in freak accident

A man tragically lost his life when a lightning bolt struck during an outdoor birthday party, injuring three others.

Victor Lescano was celebrating a 15-year-old's birthday in Puma Husai, Argentina, when a thunderstorm rolled in, causing panic among the guests. Victor, 26, was hit by a bolt of electricity along with three other party-goers.

Despite being rushed to hospital, he was sadly declared dead on arrival. Another guest, Betiana Orona, 23, received treatment in hospital while two others needed only first aid.

Victor's sister, Yani Lescano, paid tribute to her brother on Facebook, writing: "Fly high, may the light that has no end shine on you. My tears are unstoppable. Give me the strength to continue. I'm going to miss you every day of my life."

The incident is currently under investigation by police and prosecutor Lorena Belkis Alderete, according to local reports. Police from the 33rd police station attended the scene, but local news outlets claim life-saving attempts were to no avail.

Little is known about the victim, other than that he lived in the town of Sumampa, and that he was an amateur paddle tennis player. Shocked locals took to Facebook to pay tribute to him.

One wrote: "My deepest condolences to the family". And a second commented: "What a horror!!! But putting him fly high' as a farewell after being killed by lightning sounds kind of misplaced."

A third added: "This is so sad, and I really feel for the family considering nothing could have been done to prevent such a tragic accident from happening! I hope the others injured by the strike end up being safe and healthy as soon as possible."
