Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? If so, then this could be the news you’ve been waiting for. New maps from WXCharts show a snow white out on Christmas Day – with the whole of the UK set for at least some wintry showers, according to its latest analysis.

Other maps from the weather channel show that it’s most likely to lay in Scotland, with up to 25cm in parts of northern Scotland, specifically the Highlands. But urban parts of the country could even see up to 29cm snow drifts in some instances.

There’s also up to 8cm predicted in the area around Dundee and 4cm along parts of the Pennines. But weather expert Jim Dale, senior meteorologist at British Weather Services, says that snow could come before the big day.

He said: “It’s more likely ‘The Nightmare *before Christmas’ with Arctic air in situ from December 21 to 24 – a snow fest for the north, less impact further south but even they’re not out of the woods.

“There’s milder air pushing in from the south west Christmas Eve/Christmas Day but Scotland remains in the freezer with further snow. At least that’s how it looks right now.”

The Met Office long-range forecast doesn’t yet mention the chance of snow, however. It said: “Later next week, in the run up to Christmas, there are indications of rain and showers developing more widely.

“There is also a chance of winds switching to more of a northwesterly direction, allowing conditions to become a little colder, with a risk of some wintry showers developing in the north.

“However, at this stage there is little sign of any widespread or severe cold and wintry weather.” Meanwhile betting sites have narrowed their odds on it snowing in Edinburgh on Christmas Day, but still believe Glasgow is the most likely UK city to enjoy a White Christmas, reports Gambling.com.

But it also reveals that practically every UK city has seen its chances of a white Christmas improve.
