A man is said to be fighting for his life after reportedly setting himself on fire outside a McDonalds in Liverpool.<\/p>\n
Emergency services were called to the fast food restaurant in Walton at 5.30am today following reports of a man requiring urgent medical attention for serious burns.<\/p>\n
Eyewitnesses speaking to the Liverpool Echo\u00a0say that the man ‘set himself on fire’.<\/p>\n
He was taken to hospital where police say he remains in a ‘critical’ condition; a cordon has been established outside the eatery, behind which police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue vehicles are parked.<\/p>\n
Investigators have been seen speaking to McDonalds staff and taking photographs of the scene.<\/p>\n

Another area of the car park for the drive-through restaurant has been taped off, while a ‘scientific support unit’ forensics van is parked nearby.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: ‘We received a report of a concern for safety of a man in Walton this morning, Thursday 26 October.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘At around 5.50am it was reported a man, aged in his 40s, needed urgent medical attention for serious burns injuries.<\/p>\n
‘Emergency services attended and he has been taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. An investigation is ongoing and a cordon remains in place at the scene.’<\/p>\n
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service told the Echo: ‘[We] attended an incident on Queens Drive, Walton, on the morning of Thursday 26th October.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘Crews were alerted at 5.34am and one fire engine was on scene to assist Merseyside Police at 5.40am. We left the scene at 06.49am.’<\/p>\n
