THE world's deepest bunker stretches to 6,500 feet underground and can hold up to a million people.

China's nuclear command bunker is said to be the "deepest in the world" and has been described as a "small city".

Buried up to 2,000 metres down, the Joint Operations Command Centre is the highest level headquarters in China.

It is where President Xi Jinping and his top military decision-making team exercise command of the Chinese military’s combat operations.

The JOCC is headed by Xi, who is also the chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC)

However, the exact location of the JOCC is classified, but SCMP claim it is situated in a reinforced underground complex on the west side Beijing.

The main entrance is located in the Western Hills National Forest Park, not far from China’s top leaders' HQ near the Forbidden City.

Established at some point between 2014-15, the JOCC was designed as part of a series of reforms aimed at making the Chinese military more capable of unified operations.

It is said to have space and supplies for one million people, with enough drinking water for each of those individuals already in preparation.

The JOCC is manned 24 hours a day, naturally, and would provide shelter for the president and his closest associates on the dawn of nuclear war.
