Email tips@dailymail.com\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A train passenger mistaken for escaped terror suspect Daniel Khalife on a platform says he was treated to a business class seat as an apology for the mix-up.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Police hunting Khalife accidentally detained a &#8216;look-a-like&#8217; at an Oxfordshire train station, with the incident caught on camera by a member of the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Officers swooped on the man at Banbury station yesterday &#8211; until they established it was not in fact the fugitive former soldier who\u00a0escaped HMP Wandsworth strapped underneath a delivery van early on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>A man claiming to be the person stopped by police wrote on X: &#8216;No, I&#8217;m not the guy who escaped from prison. Apparently somebody reported me due to looking alot like him. I got released after they found out who I really was, and the train station put in business class as an apology! (sic)&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>An earlier tweet from him read: &#8216;Hi everyone, just made this acc to explain what happened today. A woman mistook me for Daniel Khalife, and alerted the police.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;After about 20 mins of questions (and some gd banter) i proved I wasn&#8217;t the escapee after a finger print scan.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/07\/19\/75182581-12493315-image-a-13_1694113159215.jpg\" height=\"464\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Officers swooped on a man at Banbury station earlier today as they continued to hunt for terror suspect Khalife<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/07\/23\/75180421-12493315-Daniel_Khalife_pictured_a_former_soldier_in_the_22_Signal_Regime-a-4_1694126351313.jpg\" height=\"748\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Daniel\u00a0Khalife (pictured), a former soldier in the 22 Signal Regiment, was on remand at HMP Wandsworth ahead of his six-week terror trial<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/07\/23\/75128459-12493315-image-a-5_1694126351314.jpg\" height=\"482\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Khalife, 21, was on remand at HMP Wandsworth (pictured) awaiting trial in relation to terrorism and Official Secrets Act offences<\/p>\n<p>As police dealt with the &#8216;possible sighting&#8217;, train passenger Oliver, in his 20s, was left waiting outside the station while the incident took place.<\/p>\n<p>When the train then pulled into the station, he was able to snap a clear picture of a man who many have said shares a striking similarity to 21-year-old Khalife.<\/p>\n<p>Oliver said: &#8216;We went through Banbury on the way to Basingstoke.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Just before we got there, they said on the tannoy that we couldn&#8217;t go to Banbury and they&#8217;re delaying the train as they think there&#8217;s an escaped terrorist at the station.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It was a 15-minute wait &#8211; when we pulled into the station he was right outside my window &#8211; it looked like him a lot.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;When we were waiting at Banbury I was a bit worried at first, I was thinking a lot of things &#8211; is he on the track, is he trying to get on the train, what&#8217;s going to happen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It was a bit daunting at first but I&#8217;m glad they told us correct information because sometimes they withhold it.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>There have so far been no confirmed sightings of Khalife, with the ex-Royal Signals soldier said to be &#8216;resourceful&#8217; as he continues to allude authorities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thames Valley Police said: &#8216;Officers dealt with a possible sighting of a wanted male at Banbury Train Station this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/07\/23\/75180403-12493315-Dressed_as_a_chef_the_soldier_turned_alleged_spy_served_fellow_i-a-6_1694126351315.jpg\" height=\"557\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Dressed as a chef, the soldier-turned-alleged-spy served fellow inmates breakfast and then evaded guards and CCTV while the vehicle was driven for 250 yards along an internal road<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/08\/07\/75181849-12495009-The_Met_Police_admitted_that_Khalife_s_previous_military_experie-m-1_1694156212228.jpg\" height=\"1024\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The Met Police admitted that Khalife&#8217;s &#8216;previous military experience&#8217; may make him harder to catch, as he is likely &#8216;more aware of efforts to apprehend him&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It was not the person we were looking for and the incident has been stood down. Thank you for your support at the time.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The Metropolitan Police said in a statement reported by the Guardian: &#8216;We are aware of a man being stopped by police in the Banbury area earlier today.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We have liaised with colleagues in Thames Valley and confirmed the man in question is not Daniel Khalife.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Commander Dominic Murphy, who is leading the investigation, asked for anyone with information about Khalife that may help us to get in touch urgently.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8216;Since yesterday, over 150 officers and staff have been working around the clock on apprehending Khalife.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We have issued a nationwide alert that has resulted in increased security at our ports and borders, however currently there have not been any confirmed sightings.<\/p>\n<h3>READ MORE:\u00a0Moment police swoop on van that terror suspect &#8216;Iranian spy&#8217; used to flee Wandsworth &#8211; but find he&#8217;s already vanished\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p>&#8216;I recognise and am fully aware of the impact these measures are having on the public. We are working to ensure as minimal disruption as possible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It is crucial for the public to help us with this search and to call us immediately if they have any information on the whereabouts of Khalife.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The fugitive, described as being of slim build, with short brown hair and 6ft 2ins tall, and was said to be wearing\u00a0a white T-shirt, distinctive red and white chequered trousers and brown steel-toe boots, though the Met Police said that the public should not focus on his clothing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Murphy said at a briefing: &#8216;He clearly could very quickly change those clothes, so I wouldn&#8217;t want to focus too much on that.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>He described him as a &#8216;very resourceful individual&#8217;, adding: &#8216;Our experience of him shows that, so nothing is off the table with him at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;This was a really busy area of London and we&#8217;ve had no confirmed sightings in any of that information, which is a little unusual, and perhaps testament to Daniel Khalife&#8217;s ingenuity in his escape and some of his movements after his escape.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It&#8217;s important that we remember that we have some of the best military in the world here in the UK and he was trained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;He was a trained soldier &#8211;
