Who is Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer and how old is he?

STEPHEN G. Breyer is one of the longest-serving justices appointed to the Supreme Court.

But now talks about whether Breyer should retire or not began to surface.

Who is Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer?

He was nominated by President Bill Clinton on May 17, 1994, and has served since August 3, 1994.

Breyer is associated with the liberal wing of the Supreme Court.

In 2020, the Supreme Court was likely to leave in place the bulk of Obamacare, including key protections for pre-existing health conditions.

Justices Stephen Breyer, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor have voted to uphold the law at the time.

How old is Stephen Breyer?

The liberal justice is 82 years old.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on June 13 called for Breyer to resign.

She told CNN that she is “inclined to say yes” as to whether Breyer should retire from the Supreme Court in the upcoming weeks.

Democratic Rep. Mondaire Jones is another Rep. calling for Breyer’s retirement from the Supreme Court this summer, CNN previously reported.

Why is Stephen Breyer trending?

Breyer previously declined to speak about his retirement plans.

Earlier this year, Breyer warned against expanding the size of the Supreme Court beyond its current nine members.

The issue of Breyer’s retirement seems to be trending as efforts to replace him with a young liberal member probably could only happen now.

On June 14, 2021, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt that a Republican Senate will “highly unlikely” confirm a candidate nominated by President Joe Biden for the Supreme Court in 2024 in case the GOP take the Senate next year, The Week reported.
