Putin announces he will run in Russian elections but faces ‘dangerous foes’
Vladimir Putin announced he will run for re-election in the presidential election to be held in Russia in March 2024.
The Russian President shared the news on Friday, as he was handing out Hero of Russia awards, a title handed out following heroic deeds carried out in the service of the state.
Artem Zhoga, the current commander of pro-Russian force called Sparta Battalion involved in the war in Ukraine, said Putin agreed without hesitation when asked about his intention to run again.
Kremlin pool correspondent Andrei Kolesnikov wrote that “the president agreed. The rest then joined the request”.
Until now, Putin had not commented on his desire to take part in the election despite being widely expected to do so, given in April 2021 he had signed a law allowing him to seek re-election twice more in his lifetime.
