Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office out to their home one a month since they moved in, official figures reveal.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved from their friend Tyler Perry Los Angeles home to the Montecito in Santa Barbara in July 2020.

Meghan and Harry’s new life in the states appeared to be going well until but the couple revealed their security fears in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Both Harry and Meghan said the Royal Family’s decision to take away his UK-funded personal protection was a "shock" that put them at risk.

A Freedom of Information request, submitted by the PA news agency, revealed the couple’s concerns are well-founded, with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office having been called to their property nine times.

Four of those times were in July 2020, the month the couple moved, with another labelled as "alarm activations," which occurred in the morning.

An August request is listed as "Misc Priority Incdnt", while there was a further alarm in November.

The pair didn’t have peace on Christmas Eve either, with sheriff's deputies called to Meghan and Harry’s property after a man was alleged to have trespassed at 4.13pm.

The Daily Star has approached a spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment.

Prince Harry explained the couple's decision to move to the US from Canada in their interview with Oprah.

He said: "The biggest concern was while we were in Canada, in someone else's house, I then got told, short notice, that security was going to be removed. By this point, courtesy of the Daily Mail, the world knew our exact location.

"So suddenly it dawned on me – 'Hang on a second, the borders could be closed, we're going to have our security removed, who knows how long lockdown is going to be, the world knows where we are, it's not safe, it's not secure, we probably need to get out of here'."
