Hopes of 'happy and glorious' weather for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee are being dampened down as new forecasts suggest a royal washout could be on the way instead.
Earlier predictions for the bumper bank holiday weekend had been promising, with the extended celebrations from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June possibly falling in the middle of a '10-day heatwave'.
Some have even tipped the mercury to soar to 30C during the scorching start to summer — but a new wave of meteorological data says otherwise.
Weather maps from independent forecaster WX Charts now display showers falling in the UK on every day of the four-day knees-up.
Celebrity performers at the Queen's Platinum Party at the Palace on Saturday evening may escape the worst of the rain, however, with the likes of Duran Duran, Nile Rodgers and Sam Ryder taking to the stage during a dry spell.
Party-lovers hoping to hold a 'Big Jubilee Lunch' on the Sunday should also be mostly in the clear, with limited showers forecast across the UK that day.
The Met Office meanwhile say that current conditions make the Jubilee weekend impossible to call, with all hopes riding on one unpredictable weather system behaves.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Rudman said: “Although the Jubilee Weekend is still a week away, what we’re keeping an eye on is how a plume of warm air behaves later in the week, which, despite returning temperatures to around average for the time of year, could also bring some showers as it moves in from the south and travels north on Thursday and Friday.”
The new forecasts of a wet start to the month have seen odds slashed from 5/1 to 3/1 on June being the wettest on record at a high street bookies.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "The weather still can't seem to make up its mind, but the odds suggest next month could break records for all the wrong reasons with even more rain on the way."
