‘Jobs in 1970s adult movies’ are all that is safe from AI, claims Al Murray

Al Murray says AI is going to replace most jobs – but definitely not the work in cheesy 1970s adult movies.

The Pub Landlord comic thinks the majority of office jobs and IT tasks will be filled by artificial intelligence software in the near future, leaving millions unemployed.

Murray reckons jobs that will survive will be tradesmen – like plumbers, electricians and delivery drivers – all of whom were regularly featured in vintage sex movies.

“All those sorts of jobs that are jobs in 1970s porn films will remain safe from AI,” he said. “That includes the sh*****g. Those are the things that are safe from AI in Pub Landlord logic. Accountants don’t turn up in porn films.”

The 55-year-old funnyman is not worried about comedy being taken over by robots. He said: “In the end, we’re going to need flesh and blood comedians.

“AI is going to be the big thing in the next tour. There’s going to be a lot of AI chat. I’ll do my crowd work and it’s going to be, ‘You’re for the chop mate.’ I’ll be working my way through who AI is going to spare.”

It comes after news that AI might be on the verge of helping humans talk to animals.

According to a new report in Scientific American, experts are using AI to decode animal noises which could help humans to communicate with them. Several groups are involved in using AI to make this work, one of which is the Earth Species Project.

Aza Raskin, one of the founders of the non-profit, explained: “We looked out at the universe and discovered that Earth was not the centre. The power of AI to reshape our understanding of animals will have a similar effect.

“These tools are going to change the way that we see ourselves in relation to everything. When this becomes the thing that the entire world sees … suddenly I think we can accelerate and be a force multiplier for every other conservation and climate action out there.”
