Hundreds of people evacuated from office buildings as London's Leicester Square is cordoned off over gas leak

HUNDREDS of people have been evacuated from Leicester Square because of a suspected gas leak.

Cops have asked staff in tens of offices and shops to vacate after the busy area in central London was cordoned off.

Emergency services are now at the scene and people are being asked to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Met police said: “Cordons are in place at Leicester Square due to a suspected gas leak. 

“Emergency services are in attendance and managing the incident. 

“A number of buildings have been evacuated as a precaution, and the square is currently closed to pedestrians. Please avoid the area.”
