Brit left fighting for life after steam train carrying tourists derails in Argentinian mountain range | The Sun

A BRITISH man is fighting for his life in intensive care after a train carrying dozens of tourists in Argentina was derailed.

The vintage steam train popular with tourists crashed in a mountain range on Saturday with 53 people on board.

The Brit was taken to a hospital in Ingeniero Jacobacci where he was treated for minor injuries before he was transferred elsewhere for more serious care.

By Sunday morning his condition had worsened significantly, according to local reports.

He was admitted to intensive care with a cardiac arrhythmia; an irregular heartbeat.

Four other tourists from the group were taken to different hospitals near the Rio Negro province after the horror crash.

The accident apparently happened after the train tracks gave way into the ground in an area currently experiencing strong winds.

It is reportedly not the first time the well known La Trochita railway line has been involved in an accident.

Last September, another train service provided by the same company also derailed.

The accident on Saturday happened around four miles from Rio Chico.

Usually the La Trochita train would take passengers between the Ingeniero Jacobacci and Ojos de Agua stations, but the tourist group – mostly American – had hired a special service to Ñorquinco.

The attraction involves tour guides who tell tourists about the history of the train.

There is often also a musician making their way through the carriages.

After the other train derailed last year, the service was suspended for over two weeks while the route was inspected and repaired.
