Arrest made in connection with two Aurora explosions

Police on Friday night arrested an Aurora man they believe to be behind the recent detonation of two explosive devices in southeast Aurora.

Scott Alan Campbell was arrested on investigation of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree arson and possession of a weapon by a previous offender, Aurora police said in a Saturday morning news release.

Campbell is being held at the Aurora Detention Center on $1 million bail.

The first explosion happened at about 5:30 a.m.  Christmas Day in the 18000 block of East Mansfield Avenue, damaging two homes, investigators said.

The second occurred on Jan. 7 at about 4:45 a.m. in the 4600 block of South Pagosa Circle. An officer responding to a report of shots fired in the area “found a detonated explosive device.” One home was damaged.

Nobody was injured in either blast, police said.

The case was investigated in coordination with a variety of local and federal agencies, including the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
