Tory trounced in by-election previously boasted about win in embarrassing video
An embarrassing video has emerged of a Conservative candidate from one of yesterday’s by-elections, boasting about winning – before he was trounced by his Labour rival.
Andrew Cooper – whose subsequent loss in Tamworth was the second-biggest swing from the Conservatives to Labour at a by-election since 1945, was seen laughing and nodding in the background after being asked if he would soon be known as “MP Andrew Cooper”.
It came just before a terrible day for the Conservatives, as Labour also overcame a 24,664 majority in Mid-Bedfordshire (previously Nadine Dorries’ seat), in addition to Chris Pincher’s former seat of Tamworth.
Things got more embarrassing for Cooper, who stormed off stage immediately after Labour rival Sarah Edwards began her victory speech.

Described as showing a “smug Tory attitude” by one, Tory Tamworth hopeful Cooper was filmed by a woman, presumed to be his partner, who was seen laughing hysterically as she said: “Andy Cooper, the next MP for Tamworth!”
In the now-deleted video, the woman, known simply as Thea, opens by saying “it’s the last chance saloon” as the two walk along a dark street, presumably after a door-knocking session.
After being proclaimed as Tamworth’s next MP, Cooper laughs, before Thea then states: “He laughs, but I’m serious – I only ever back winners,” before chuckling.
She continued: “Now you see him as Andy Cooper, next time it’s MP Andy, right?”

Cooper nodded and laughed, before responding: “Yep, if you say so Thea, if you say so.”
Thea then gets close to the camera before giggling: “I always get what I want, because I’m that kind of girl.”
The video was screen-recorded and reposted to X/Twitter. The top response reads: “5 minutes later, still uncurling my toes”.
Another said: “Some would say this is ‘confidence’. I call it entitled arrogance. And clearly she just loves the idea of (presumably her partner?) being an MP where she can mingle with rich, influential people, whilst bragging her partner is an MP & enjoying his over-inflated income. Sickening.”
A third wrote: “I guess the voters have had enough of this type of politics.”
It was not the first time Andrew Cooper was subject to public ridicule – he was previously caught sharing a photo on Facebook which encouraged people to tell those who couldn’t afford food for their children to “f*** off”.
