Conservative Party grandee Sir Roger Gale has blasted the Leader of the Opposition for expressing “synthetic” anger in response to the Downing Street Christmas party row engulfing Westminster. Sir Roger told BBC News that he gave Keir Starmer “no credit’ for the manner in which he has looked to hold the Government to account over the alleged event at Number 10 last Christmas.

Sir Roger said: “I’m not interested in Starmer synthetic anger.”

Asked how he knew the Labour leader’s outrage was “synthetic,” he replied: “By tone of voice, really.

“I mean, I give him no credit for his performance in this at all.”
