Elon Musk has been attracting some negative press in the crypto world as of late, and now Russell Okung – a former NFL player for the Carolina Panthers and a big bitcoin fan – is joining the angry crowd.
The Anger Towards Elon Musk Continues
Okung recently erected a billboard which took aim at the South African entrepreneur, particularly his position as CEO of SpaceX. Okung posted the following on the billboard:
Stick to space.
Clearly, he wants Elon Musk out of the crypto industry and does not like him messing around with the bitcoin price anymore than he already has.
Russell Okung became well known amongst crypto fans last year when it was announced that half of his NFL salary – which exceeded $13 million – would be converted to BTC. The player is a massive crypto fan and claims that bitcoin is the money of the future, though he – like many people in the space – are not too happy about where the asset’s price has gone in the past few weeks.
At the time of writing, bitcoin has shed nearly $30,000 from its all-time high of $64,000 per unit, which was attained in April of last year. Much of this loss is being attributed to the behavior and social media comments of Musk, who stated not too long ago that he would no longer permit bitcoin payments for Tesla-based goods and services, claiming that there was too much concern surrounding the mining process.
He also hinted that he was potentially looking to sell his own personal bitcoin stash, though Tesla itself would not be removing any BTC from its present balance sheet. Each of these instances resulted in massive losses for the world’s number one digital currency by market cap, and according to a recent study, Elon Musk is now one of the most disliked figures in the crypto space.
The billboard is allegedly part of a long-term campaign that Russell Okung is launching. Several additional billboards are set to be erected in Florida and Texas, where the SpaceX U.S. headquarters is stationed. Russell has assured fans in a statement that he is not out to personally attack Elon Musk. Rather, it is his mission to remind the public not to take his comments so seriously given that his experience in the digital asset space is limited. The idea is to potentially reduce some of the entrepreneur’s power.
Russell Okung Doesn’t Want Anyone Messing with Crypto
Bitcoin is humanity’s best shot at freedom. The public narrative needed correction as Elon apparently misunderstands its true benefit to our species… No individual is a threat to bitcoin in the grand scheme of things. In Elon’s words, it is inevitable. His impact on bitcoin is temporary.
Recently, Okung took his love of BTC to new heights when he helped fund a bitcoin-sponsored car at the Indianapolis 500.
