Discover just announced a surprise addition to its quarterly 5% cash back calendar, and it's perfect timing if you're on the hunt for electronics deals this Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Until December 31, Discover it® Cash Back and Discover it® Student Cash Back cardholders who activate the bonus can earn 5% cash back at Best Buy, on up to $1,500 in combined spending with previously announced categories for the fourth quarter (Amazon, Target.com, and Walmart.com).
Earn 5% cash back on Best Buy holiday shopping with Discover it
Best Buy is a favorite of Black Friday bargain hunters looking for discounts on electronics gifts, so its addition to the Discover cash-back calendar gives consumers another opportunity to save cash this holiday shopping season.
If you're already activated the Discover 5% bonus categories for Q4, there's nothing else you have to do — the bonus has been added automatically. For those who haven't, it's simple to activate through your Discover online account, and you'll earn the bonus from the day you enroll until the end of December.
Between this quarter's bonus categories of Best Buy, Amazon, Target.com, and Walmart.com, it should be easy for most shoppers to maximize their 5% cash-back earnings. If you reach the $1,500 combined spending limit (after which you'll earn 1% back, like all other purchases), you'll earn $75 in bonus rewards — not bad for shopping you'd probably do anyway.
Those who've already hit the spending threshold this quarter have a brand-new set of 5% cash-back categories to look forward to in the new year. From January to March 2021, Discover it cardholders can earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined spending (then 1%) at grocery stores, Walgreens, and CVS when they activate their card.
The Discover it® Cash Back and Discover it® Student Cash Back are among a handful of cards that offer bonus rewards in categories that rotate each quarter. Another popular card for holiday shoppers, the Chase Freedom Flex℠, currently earns 5% cash back (5 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar) on up to $1,500 in combined spending at Walmart and PayPal (then 1%) through December 31 when you activate the bonus.
