Facebook posted a job vacancy for Lead Commercial Counsel for its Blockchain division, with experience in blockchain or payments technology. This follows the social media giant’s launch of a blockchain division in May last year to explore how to best leverage Blockchain technology across Facebook.
David Marcus, Facebook’s vice president for its Messenger App division, was then given the responsibility to set up a team for the implementation of blockchain technology across Facebook. It had announced new appointments in the blockchain division in July last year.
The latest job vacancy post strengthens signals that Facebook is getting more serious about the new generation technology, which is behind bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
Facebook post reads “a flexible, diligent, proactive, team player to serve as Lead Commercial Counsel to support its new initiative in the development of blockchain applications.”
The counsel will be responsible for drafting and negotiating a wide variety of contracts related Facebook’s blockchain initiatives, including partnerships needed to launch new products and expand such products internationally.
The person will also advise clients on the various legal risks, business strategies and other issues related to commercial transactions and general operations.
The demand for cryptocurrency and blockchain-related jobs have increased significantly in the U.S. despite the regulatory uncertainty and price volatility, according to recruiting and employer-review website Glassdoor.
